Yes, I am here! Henry and I got back to Ottawa on New Year's Eve, and we've spent the last week trying to get back on track. Henry was pretty jet lagged for most of the week, staying awake until almost midnight (groan) and sleeping in until 9 a.m. Schedule is back to normal now, and preschool started up again this morning, so real life is resuming.
Last year my New Year's resolution was to run a half marathon. Done. This year, I've set myself an even greater challenge: Toilet train the boy! So far, Henry is heavily resistant to the idea of using the potty. He seems to instinctively recognize everything and anything related to potty training, and protests mightily whenever these elements are tentatively introduced into his life. He throws a tantrum when we try to put him in "pull-up" style training diapers (even though they have Bob The Builder on them!). He refuses to read the potty training kid's book I bought for him (even though the little boy in the story is named Henry!). I may start putting him in soggy, uncomfortable cloth diapers to see if that encourages him to think more positively about life after diapers. Beyond that, I have to do some research about the best approach. All I know now is that it's shaping up to be a hell of a battle.
In other news, we went out this weekend and bought Henry a "Big Boy" bed. It's being delivered today. We're hoping that a bigger, more comfortable sleeping space will encourage him to spend more time in his own bed and less in ours (no, I didn't get my king size for Christmas). And there's still no sign of winter around here. Not that I'm complaining. But the locals are pretty bummed about the lack of snow and ice. Strange folks, those.
